Dear Premier Wynne,
I am among the vast majority of Ontarians who are opposed to the Ontario Liberal Government’s privatization plans for Hydro One and local, publicly operated electricity utilities. Despite 83% of Ontarians opposing the sale, your Government has sold 30% of Hydro One. If you sell 60% of Hydro One, you are putting the majority of a public utility into private hands without the consent of the people of Ontario.
You did not campaign on a platform to privatize hydro and do not have a mandate to do so. You need to be held accountable for your decision to act against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of Ontarians. Now that we have information from the Auditor-General about how little the sale of Hydro One will generate for the government’s infrastructure spending plans, the government should put a stop to this privatization plan.
This is an issue that I and other Ontario residents will remember when we cast our ballots in the next provincial election.
I urge you to listen to the people of Ontario and protect reliable, affordable electricity for Ontarians, and keep hydro public.
